Find out which Japanese chain is entering the Australian market

First Yayoiken restaurant opens in Sydney, doors opened last week at the corner of Bridge and Loftus Streets.

Plenus, the local Fukuoka based company behind the Yayoiken restaurant chain, has opened its first Australian branch in Sydney.

The name is shortened for the Australian market, according to the brand's website, also noting that the first Yayoi will be an 80 seat restaurant and sake bar, serving a menu crafted true to Japanese culinary tradition. Many elements of the restaurant will be imported straight from Japan, from the artwork to the fittings and even the rice.

In an article published by Fukouka now, it noted that Australia was chosen as its multicultural society and business market are similar to Singapore, where Yayoiken is enjoying success. It will be the fifth Yayoiken established outside Japan. Plenus plans to open ten new Yayoiken shops over the next three years.

Yayoi is described as a Japanese Teishoku Restaurant. Teishoku is a set meal consisting of miso soup, a main dish of meat or fish with side dishes of vegetables and "tsukemono" pickles; offering a balanced arrangement of meat, vegetables and fish.
