Wasabi Warriors to focus on sustainable business practices

Kate McMahon, National Marketing Manager of Pacific Retail, shares the brands plans for the year and why focussing on sustainability is reaping dividends.

QSR Media: What has the brand accomplished in 2014? To what do you attribute last year's success to?

Kate McMahon: Developing strong relationships with our international Business Warriors has set a strong foundation for 2015 with our first international store opening in Hong Kong on the 6th of January, with our second to open in Philippines in February.

McMahon: 2014 also saw Pacific Retail reach 50 stores across all brands; this included 3 new Wasabi Warrior stores in WA and QLD. With 7 new stores currently in our store build and design phase there will be in no slowing down in 2015.

We would have to attribute a successful 2014 to the hard work and determination of our franchise partners and their teams who tirelessly help to spread our brand message!

QSR Media: What is new with the brand? Are there any new initiatives that you are implementing or brand updates you would like to share?

McMahon: This year the focus for Wasabi Warriors is to continue to honour the Ocean, Earth and the Animals through our use of sustainable business practices whilst also providing our customers with freshly made sushi with the utmost dedication and respect. We’re excited to launch our new range of black rice range which has more antioxidants than blue berries and is a higher source of fibre than brown rice, whilst still honouring the ocean, earth and the animals with locally sourced ingredients and free range chicken.

QSR Media: Can you share with us specific plans and goals for Australia in 2015 and beyond? Including Canada and New Zealand.

McMahon: 2015 we’re excited about both local and international expansion. With some exciting opportunities coming out of Western Australia and further expansion internationally into Asia in particular the Philippines and Hong Kong as well as opening stores in Dubai. Along with this it’s also important for us to continue to work with our Franchise Partners to see continuous growth from store level.

QSR Media: Any challenges and issues in the industry you are facing now?

McMahon: One of the biggest challenges we face is finding great sites for our Business Warriors.
