Guess which cities Pizza Hut is targeting for expansion

The brand revealed plans to open over 50 new stores.

Pizza Hut recently opened its first store in New Zealand since 2007. Following the launch of this expansion strategy, the brand reported that they are also looking to open more stores across Australia, particularly in Melbourne and Perth.

Below is a Q&A with Andy Masood, Pizza Hut head of development.

QSR Media: What drove the brand to launch a brand new store in New Zealand?

Masood: Expansion for Pizza Hut is generally triggered by an increase in consumer demand however it is often a combination of many factors that result in a new store being opened.

In this instance, one of our existing young, passionate and talented franchisee who was eager to open his second store, and bring Pizza Hut pizzas to the local town of Ta Awamatu.

QSR Media: How do you think the brand will fare in the NZ pizza market?

Masood: The demand for Pizza Hut products and service is very strong and growing as we continue to develop and deliver great tasting pizzas and big value offers to our new and regular customers.

Our brand is centric around providing our customers what they expect from a world class brand but with local engagement with the community.

We have 84 stores trading in NZ and have almost full coverage on both islands and still have some opportunities in the regional towns to service the community with Pizza Hut products.

QSR Media: Where else do you see growth?

Masood: There are a number of opportunities in New Zealand and Australia for growth. We are on the lookout for operators who are seeking a challenging but rewarding franchise business to join our world class brand.

In terms of local markets, we see Melbourne and Perth as big opportunities and plan to open 50 plus new stores in the greater Melbourne and Perth areas.

QSR Media: What does the brand hope to achieve by the end of the year?

Masood: We have a long runway for growth to reach full market penetration and service all Australian households. Pizza Hut Australia has embarked on this growth journey, aiming to be accessible so every Australian community can enjoy their favourite pizza.

Before the end of the year, we look forward to opening an additional 20 new franchised stores to service the ever growing customer love for Pizza Hut pizzas.
