Domino’s pledges to remove artificial ingredients
The pizza chain announced a two year plan to remove all artificial colours, flavours and preservatives from its menu, without compromising taste.
Group CEO and Managing Director Don Meij said that after working the past three years to reduce sodium, fats and sugars in their ingredients, the company is now focused on a menu that is better and healthier for customers.
“We are extremely proud of our main product, our Dough, which is preservative free, contains no artificial colours, GMO free and MSG free and is baked fresh daily in our stores,” Meij said.
“We now have plans to be as equally proud of our entire menu and what it boils down to is if you can’t pronounce it, it shouldn’t be in the food – it’s all about simplifying the ingredients.”
“Today’s customers want to avoid products containing GMO’s and rightly so. We want to be in a position to offer customers natural products they are seeking, with the added bonus of an affordable price tag and the great taste they have come to know, love and expect from us."
“A couple of years ago, Australia’s favourite pizza makers announced their commitment to reducing sodium content in their proteins, bakery and dairy ingredients by 25% over a three year period as well as reducing the fat content of their proteins and dairy ingredients by 15%,” he said.
"Since these targets were set Domino’s has already reduced the sodium in its three chicken products; kickers and wings by 40%, chicken ribs by 30%, beef by 26%, pepperoni by 45%, cheese by 29%, with changes already rolled out nationally across all stores.”
Domino’s cheese has also seen a 25% decrease in fat, seasoned chicken has had a 40% decrease in fat while pepperoni has had a 20% reduction.
