Jarden chief economist to draw the big picture of QSR’s biggest challenges

Join Carlos Cacho, chief economist at Jarden at the QSR Media Australia Conference & Awards 2023 powered by Red Bull.

As the industry faces new challenges, Carlos Cacho, chief economist at Jarden will discuss the economic outlook and what it means for QSR operators, joining other industry leaders at the biggest QSR business event of the year.

This year, the QSR Media Australia Conference & Awards 2023 powered by Red Bull will return bigger than ever. The event will be in Sydney, Australia, on 30 October, with the biggest names in the industry joining each other for a day of sharing industry insights.

In a quick Q&A, QSR Media talked to Carlos about what’s new in today’s industry.

What are some interesting changes in the QSR industry you have noticed in the past year?

From a macro perspective, there are a few interesting trends, we’ve seen the easing of the supply chain and to an extent labour shortages, but that challenge has been replaced by changing consumer behaviours as cost of living pressure impacts households.

How should QSR tackle challenges like changing consumer preferences, talent shortage, and technology advancements to take their business to the next level?

The price of a lot of things are going up today, and this is making the consumer more value-conscious, so offering them a sense of value, and sometimes special occasion can help. Labour is still a challenge for many industries, but with migration running at a record high, it doesn’t have to be.

While it might not always be easy, tapping these sources of labour, like international students can help.

Please give us an overview of the unique perspectives you will be sharing during your discussion.

As an economist, I’ll be trying to give the audience a big-picture understanding of how the outlook and challenges across the industry and the broader economy are shaping up for the year ahead.
