KFC rebuilds South Penrith restaurant with recycled materials
The fast-food chain plans to construct new stores in this format.
KFC has partnered with startup saveBOARD to rebuild its South Penrith location to incorporate 99% recycled products into the restaurant’s design.
With saveBOARD wall and ceiling tiles fitted throughout the front of house, the opening of the South Penrith location makes KFC the first quick-service restaurant in Australia to utilise saveBOARD.
The reimagined KFC South Penrith features an immersive tunnel at the Drive Thru entrance, with visuals of the Colonel’s fried gold projected across several screens throughout the passage. Fans dining in will also have the option of placing their order via three self-service kiosks within the restaurant.
First opened in 1987, KFC South Penrith underwent a major remodel in late-2022. The reopening of the location will see 88 team members return to the KFC South Penrith branch.
According to Michael Clark, Chief Supply Chain Officer at KFC Australia the rebuilding of the South Penrith restaurant will mark its first partnership with saveBOARD. Clark said that KFC plans to construct future restaurants with saveBOARD materials and retrofit select existing locations with the startup’s low-carbon and fully recyclable materials.
