7-Eleven turns 45
The Australian-owned business has a network of more than 720 stores.
Australian-owned convenience store business, 7-Eleven, marked its 45 years of operations on 24 August, with a network of more than 720 franchised and corporate stores and more than 8,800 staff members.
In a statement, 7-Eleven Australia Managing Director and CEO Angus McKay said they have delivered on their promise to customers that they will “provide stores that save people time in their day.”
“Whilst a lot has changed about the range we offer, in essence we’re still all about providing great service while making it easy for customers, saving time in their day. And we are continuing to invest in food, format, and digital solutions to meet our customers’ needs as we look towards the future,” McKay said.
In 1976, the Withers and Barlow family invested in one of the earliest global licence agreements to bring the 7-Eleven brand outside the US. As a result, 7-Eleven transformed the face of convenience in Australia.
The early stores made essential products available for local customers. These stores also had easy parking out front and extended trading hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The brand launched its first 24-hour store six months after the first store opened.
