Find out more about the international soft serve franchise currently in Oz as a pop up

QSR Media got a chance to talk with Milkcow, the Seoul-based soft serve ice cream franchise, to discuss its brand and its plans for an Australian network.

Originating from Seoul, South Korea, the brand specializes in locally-sourced soft-serve organic ice cream, served with honeycomb. The brand launched in the latter half of 2013 and quickly became popular in the Korean dessert scene. Now, Milkcow has expanded to other countries like Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. 

Milkcow currently has a pop up store running from the 1st of April to the 31st of May at The Strand, Driver Lane.

QSR Media: Can you tell us more about Milkcow? What makes the brand unique in the dessert sector?

Milkcow: Milkcow is a premium organic soft serve ice cream brand, best known for its signature light and milky organic soft serve and honeycomb combo, as well as our other wacky topping combinations. Each of our signature ice cream creations feature a perfectly paired blend of delicious ingredients including caramel popcorn, fairy floss, oreo crumbs, pistachio crumble, tropical syrup, and more! We’re different from self-serve ice cream shops in that we still want the flavour of our ice cream to be the focus. Our ice cream is 100% pure milky goodness, but remains light at the same time. Milkcow is all about making people smile, and as our tagline says it all, we are really just full of that good stuff!

QSR Media: Does Milkcow have any plans to push through with a permanent franchise network in Australia?

Milkcow: We hope so, if Australia’s happy to have us! If our customers want us to stay, then we’re happy to be here. Soft serve is great because it’s loved by everyone, young and old!

QSR Media: What is your brand expecting from the launch of its pop up store?

Milkcow: The goal of the pop-up store is to get a feel for Australia’s response to Milkcow. We’re so excited to have brought it to an entirely new country. With the help of Melbourne design agency, Brandworks, we were able to rebrand slightly to better fit the Australian market, and pair that with a really fun interior. The pop up is all about testing that reception to see if our Australian customers want us to stay.

QSR Media: Tell us more about your products. Can you tell us more about the process your brand undergoes to make sure your products are locally sourced?

Milkcow: Our unique brand of soft serve is made from organic ingredients, making it full of that good stuff, without any of the bad stuff! All of the honey and honeycomb we use is 100% Australian and comes from a local company called Berringa. It was really important to us that we source as much as possible from local Australian vendors. Most of our soft serve toppings are sourced locally, with the exception of a couple that have to be imported, remaining unique to the Milkcow brand. We are all about local collaborations, so keep your eye out for our upcoming collaborations with some of Melbourne’s most loved dessert brands.

QSR Media: Any other comments?

Milkcow: Milkcow is all about bringing smiles to people’s faces and making their day! Perfect for indulging on your own, and even better for sharing with others, we hope that each one of our signature creations can bring happiness to everyone around us – people of all ages!
