KFC opens world's first drive-thru-only concept
The new concept features three online pick-up lanes and two traditional order lanes.
Almost five months after its initial announcement, KFC has officially opened its drive-thru-only concept in Newcastle, touted by the chain as the first of its kind anywhere.
Customers can order and pay online via the KFC app before heading down to the drive-thru store where they can enter their unique four-digit code on a touchscreen receiver and wait for their meal to pick-up.
The drive-thru concept features three online pick-up lanes and two traditional order lanes. KFC previously said it invested around $1.5m specifically for this new concept.
Citing data from Finder, the American chicken chain said that around 68 million online food orders are made in the country annually, which amounts to an overall spending of $2.6bn last year.
“We are continually looking for ways to offer our customers even faster and more convenient ordering. KFC is committed to investing in technology and innovative restaurant designs,” KFC Australia chief development officer Inara Gravitis said in a media release.
The drive-thru store is located at 80 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow, and is now open from 10 am until midnight.
