Deliveroo sees 37% growth in corporate voucher sales
More employers are paying for employees’ meals to support them through the lockdown.
Deliveroo’s corporate arm saw gift voucher sales for companies increase 37% from March to April, with similar numbers on track for May.
The most popular use for the vouchers, Deliveroo says, are shared virtual team lunches and companies repurposing their office snacks or catered lunches budget to provide a small ongoing allowance to their employees. Average spend per head has increased from approximately $15 to between $25 and $30, with companies moving from providing a shared catered lunch in the office to individual meal allowances.
Prior to COVID-19, the delivery platform says sales of individual corporate gift voucher options, where companies add an allowance to an individual’s Deliveroo account to order directly, were “rarely used.”
The technology industry is noted for being the biggest adopter of Deliveroo for Business in the past two months, making up 60% of new customers, followed by media and marketing, insurance and finance sectors.
Friday lunches have also become the most popular virtual meeting point of the week, with Deliveroo for Business orders surging 50% higher than other weekdays during this time. Burgers and pizza top the platform’s list for most-ordered virtual lunch choices, with Vietnamese and Poke Bowls preferred for healthier options.
