Outback Steakhouse US faces backlash on ‘offensive' description of menu item

The chain uses “Ab-original” to describe one of its items – the Bloomin’ Onion.

The Australian management clarified that ‘Ab-original’ is not an advert or a term that has been used in its stores.

To address the issue, Bloomin’ Brands US said in a statement, “Our brand was founded on the principles of delicious, quality food, inclusiveness and fun and we never intended to offend anyone. We’re inspired by the Australian culture.”

“Out of respect for it, we will stop using the term immediately in our digital marketing materials and will remove it from our online and restaurant menus as soon as possible.”
