McDonald's fires franchisee over viral video, seizes branch control
Robert Vigors was shown questioning the indigenous identity of a certain Robby Wirramanda.
McDonald’s has taken over the management of two stores formerly operated by its then-franchisee following a viral video capturing his derogatory tirades.
“McDonald’s confirms the Company has taken over the operation of the Mildura and Irymple restaurants, effective immediately, and Robert Vigors has left the system and is no longer involved,” the statement posted on the chain’s Facebook page read.
“McDonald’s will be engaging with its employees regarding the change in arrangements, to ensure the ongoing operation of the restaurants,” it added.
In a Twitter video posted by @toostrong4karen last 13 December, former McDonald’s franchisee Robert Vigors was shown questioning the indigenous identity of a certain Robby Wirramanda. “Which one percent of you is aboriginal, mate? You've got nothing in you that's aboriginal,” he said.
The video also caught a certain Karen Ridge, who came with Vigors, tugging an Aboriginal flag from Wirramanda’s property.
As of writing, the video garnered 6,797 Likes and 2,353 retweets.
