Wendys launches summer Smoothies selection

The new range features real fruit in each flavour.

The 14 real fruit flavours are all 98% fat free and 100% yum, according to Wendys CEO Rob McKay.

“We undertook research which indicated consumers drink smoothies not only for their taste, but their perceived nutritional value,” said McKay.

He said that they realised some of their popular flavours were not meeting customers’ nutritional expectations.

An announcement by Wendys said the major objective of the Smoothie reformulation was to create a range just as good – if not better – in both taste and nutritional flavour than major competitors.

Wendys trialled the new Smoothies in a number of stores across the nation to gauge consumer interest and potential sales growth.

The trial saw an average 30% increase in unit sales of total Smoothies compared to last year, with success attributed to sampling and staff up-selling the product to consumers.

The introductory prices are $4 for a junior cup, $5 for a small, and $6 for a large Smoothie.

The Smoothies promotion will run until February 4, 2012.
