Below is a Q&A with Jake Spencer, Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill General Manager.
QSR Media: Tell us how you came up with this concept and why it is right for Salsa's?
Spencer: Salsa’s is founded on the belief it’s critical to keep our products, and more importantly, our brand, fresh.
The concept developed from the idea of offering someone a real-life dream.
We saw an opportunity to offer someone a unique chance for a kick start (or ‘new life start’ as we call it on air), where the winner can take control of their own destiny and turn their dream of running their own business into a reality.
This promotion is right for Salsa’s since we are a company focused on creating profitable partnerships with passionate people, who are hungry for success.
QSR Media: How much would you value the prize at?
Spencer: There are two models for new Salsa’s stores, food court and fast casual. Salsa’s franchises start at $400,000 (exc GST) and are priced to $550,000 (exc GST).
Prices include franchise fee, full kitchen fit out and equipment, store fit out and installation, and four weeks comprehensive training (60% in store and 40% relating to systems training and running the business).
The Bridge Road store is a fast casual format, so it’s quite a prize!
QSR Media: What timeframe do they have ownership of the store for?
Spencer: The winner of promotion will be trained by Salsa’s so the new owners are ready and set for success. The store (and profits) is theirs to own and run with ongoing support of course.
QSR Media: Tell us a bit about the response it has received?
Spencer: We are overwhelmed with the quality of entries so far and we’re in the first week of the promotion!
We’ve asking people to leave their job and become a small business owner so people have really thought about it, before considering entering the competition.
There are some pretty amazing stories coming through. We’re getting entrants like hospitality industry workers, and people with HR and marketing backgrounds. They have always wanted to have their own business.
We’re getting more partner entries, like couples who work in hospitality, people who’ve worked at Salsa’s, or know someone who works there.
We’re getting people of all ages, more women than men (at this point), families wanting to run the business together.
QSR Media: Aside from your association with Mix Melbourne what national initiatives are you planning to promote this?
Spencer: We are promoting in stores with 30 minutes of free burritos in our Victorian stores starting 31 October.
You have to listen to Mix101.1 to get the location for each day. We’re supporting the promotion across Salsa’s and Mix’s social media platforms, in-store point of sale and billboards (outdoor).
