Donut King sweetens up its menu with a donut-croissant hybrid

The hybrid pastry is only one of the many byproducts of the food 'mash up' craze that has been taking over the retail food industry, from ice cream-crepe combinations to pizza-cheeseburger hybrids it looks like they are here to stay.
Donut King is the latest major Australian retailer to be inspired by this ‘mash ups’ craze, launching the ‘DK Croissant’; a product made from croissant style pastry and formed into the shape of a donut.
Managing Director Nicholas Brill said that the decision to create their own came after experiencing high consumer interest.
“There were calls from loyal customers for Donut King to release our own version of this mash up treat,” said Mr Brill.
“So far, the feedback has been outstanding, with some of our stores selling out during the first week of launch and sales tracking well nationally.”
The ‘DK Croissant’ is made from basic flour dough that is folded upon itself and layered with real butter to form a croissant style pastry. This pastry is then made into the traditional donut shape and delivered to Donut King outlets to be cooked fresh in store daily.
Donut King’s DK Croissants are available in three flavours, glazed, choc cream filled and custard filled.
