Red Rock Noodle Bar Phil Colburn on building a QSR brand

We talk to Phil Colburn of QLD based Red Rock Noodle Bar on how they are carving out a niche in the competitive QSR space.

QSR Media: Tell us about Red Rock Noodle Bar:

Phil: The Red Rock Noodle Bar is a successful chain of franchised Asian-inspired noodle bars located within Queensland who offer a healthy takeaway alternative. The franchise has been operating here in Queensland since 2006.

The plan is to continue expanding further within the growth regions of Queensland, including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba & North Queensland. We are a Fully Queensland owned franchise system with the owners having over 100 years combined experience in the Franchise & Fast Food industry.

QSR Media: What makes you different:

Phil: We pride ourselves on our healthy 97% Fat Free noodle menu. Where the flavours are enhanced within our unique cooking process, which includes fresh quality meats and vegetables displayed and wokked to perfection right before your very eyes.

QSR Media: Your recent TV Campaign, what kind of result did this yield?

Phil: Our TV Campaign last year in November/ December was a great compliment to our marketing strategy in building awareness in our brand throughout the Brisbane market. With great growth seen in particular over the last 18 months through the use of Facebook, B105 & the Courier Mail, TV has just expanded that awareness to a newer audience which we can build on in the future.

QSR Media: What are your customers asking for?

Phil: As we become more and more aware of how important it is to look after ourselves better, Australian consumers are looking for a healthier, fresh and tasty product that they can see being made in front of them. At the end of the day we all love great service and being served by friendly genuine people with that local touch in a brand they can trust. As shown by our 5 nominations in the Quest Service Business Achievers Awards this year which are voted by our customers.

QSR Media: What are some of the challenges you face growing your business?

Phil: Our challenges are very similar to all small businesses across Australia, in the last 2 years with the current economic climate, the banks have made it more difficult to get loans which has made it harder to acquire the right franchisees with all the right mix to be successful but also restricted the current ones to expand.

QSR Media: Any Other Comments?

Phil: Red Rock Noodle Bar is proud to announce an association with “Corey Parker”, talented Brisbane and State of Origin Rugby League Player. Corey Prides himself on his health and his fitness and is dedicated to making positive lifestyle decisions when it comes to eating right. We see a strong link between Corey and our products and it will push our brand positioning and awareness within the market. We also have some very exciting new marketing initiatives on board and having Corey on board will no doubt strengthen the performance of our entire business.
