The Coffee Club holds 2016 Barista Championship
The brand's finest baristas competed for the top honours in The Coffee Club’s 2016 Barista Championship, held at the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane.
The four finalists, hailing from Gladstone, Lismore, Brisbane and Perth, took to the stage from midday where they were assessed on a number of criteria including taste and pouring technique through to the level of detail and skill demonstrated in their latte art.
The Coffee Club’s General Manager People, Tammy Ryder joined judges, World Latte Artist Judge Lance Brown and caffeine connoisseur Jade Jennings, in choosing the winning barista.
Director of The Coffee Club John Lazarou said that The Coffee Club had trained over 4,000 baristas to its national qualification standards, so making the top four was a huge feat.
“We serve over 25 million cups of coffee each year across our 300 Australian stores, so these four finalists should feel incredibly proud to make the 2016 national final,” Lazarou said.
“The Coffee Club is proud of its award-winning learning and development programs which includes comprehensive barista training for all staff; it is always such a thrill to see the high calibre of finalists representing our stores from across the country.”
Locals were encouraged visit the Upper Stage in the Queen Street Mall to watch the competitors share their top tips for the best cuppa, while grabbing a coffee from The Coffee Club’s promotional cart.
