Plant-based restaurant chain Soul Burger now franchising
The chain partnered with DC Strategy for the brand’s new chapter.
Plant-based restaurant chain Soul Burger has officially launched its move into franchising, four years after running the brand through a corporate structure.
The Sydney-headquartered business, currently with three outlets in Glebe, Newtown and Randwick, said its franchise model “avoids rebate fees in its entirety.”
“There is a lot of heat on franchise models and there's good reason for it. We’re seeing many franchise models forget about focussing on increasing revenue through constant innovation, and instead get stagnant with bloated head offices and make their money through collecting rebates from goods sold to franchisees instead,” founder Amit Tewari explained.
“That’s a negative sum game and it's not how we intend to operate. Ours is a positive sum model because our franchise model will succeed only where our franchisees open stores and grow revenue. We won’t be making money any other way.”
Soul Burger also aimed to have new revenue streams, having partnered with LOKE to develop a loyalty customer app featuring a new internal online delivery platform and website ordering, aimed to cut out “hefty” commission costs charged by third party delivery platforms.
The chain currently has over 14,000 loyalty app users and over 20,000 members of the “Beyond the Buns” loyalty programme.
Soul Burger works with plant-based brands including v2Food, Beyond Meat, Alternative Meat Company, Fable Meats and PANA Chocolate.
