KFC set to launch 30 drive-thru-only formats this year
The chicken chain also announced it is expanding its secret menu exclusively via app.
KFC is supercharged to introduce more of its world’s first drive-thru-only concept, eyeing to launch 30 of the store technology-driven format in more states.
The chicken giant first unveiled its $1.5 million concept in November last year. It was followed by a second store last month, trading in SA.
Earlier, KFC Australia chief development officer Inara Gravitis disclosed to QSR Media their plan to open the same format in VIC.
Now, it is set to launch more of this model in Canberra, Kings Cross and Glen Waverley.
The drive-thru concept features online pick-up lanes and traditional order lanes. Customers just need to enter their orders and pay via the KFC app or through the brand’s website before arriving at the drive-thru-only outlet.
KFC has claimed that 70% of its Aussie customers are ordering via existing drive-thrus, noting as well that they are enjoying the click-and-collect scheme.
Each year, it has said, 68 million online food orders are made in the country, equal to 7,000 every hour, and amounting to an overall spending of $2.6 billion in 2019.
Expanded secret menu
KFC also announced it is adding more items on its secret menu exclusively via its app.
The chicken chain plans to introduce new exclusive products on the app every month.
Amongst exclusive offers made through the KFC app include the Zinger Chipster and Kentucky Snack Pack.
According to KFC, its branded app has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times since launching in 2013.
