Find out why technology is the key in meeting QSR demands at QSR Media's upcoming inaugural conference
Tanya Gilchrist, Systems and Integration Director, Rock Paper Scissors answers some common questions on integrating technology into QSR operations.
Hear her speak more about this issue at QSR Media's inaugural conference, to be held on 30th July in Sydney
QSR Media: In what way does the touch screen drive thru and self ordering system help business save money?
Gilchrist: The clear saving is in not needing a person tied up taking orders and that is substantial but the bonus is the speed with which we can get orders cooked and ready at the window. We’ve only a three car length between the order point and collection window so we need to be super quick. We are completely cook to order so getting the information in as the customer places their order provides us vital seconds to keep the customers waiting time to an absolute minimum and our throughput capability high.
QSR Media: In what way is technology changing how QSRs operate their businesses?
Gilchrist: Technology generally has created a societal expectation of speed. From customers who want their order quicker to the expectation that as management we have any information we need and want at our fingertips. It’s just not possible to meet the demands of either consumers or business without staying up to date with technology. Without a strategic plan for technology though, there is a real risk of ending up with independently great but disparate systems. I’m really focussed on defining the outcomes I want and working back from there with. The potential within what people already have often just needs to be unlocked by working with existing IT providers.
QSR Media: Why should QSRs consider integrating a touch screen drive thru and self ordering system?
Gilchrist: Obviously the wage savings are important but in terms of brand perception consumers want to see development and improvement in their buying experience. We know that most of them are familiar and comfortable with touch screens and with self ordering through online and mobile apps so integrating the two is a natural step that meets the expectation of improvement on a familiar platform.
