Eagle Boys introduces Pizza Pies
An Australian take of an American favourite.
Inspired by America's deep-dish and stuffed pizzas, Pizza Pies are made with two layers of dough with fresh toppings between, sprinkled with creamy shredded mozzarella.
"Taking inspiration from the famous Chicago deep-dish and stuffed pizza style our Pizza Pies were formed," recounted Ellen Gault, National Marketing Manager of Eagle Boys Pizza.
"While the humble pizza originated in Italy, Americans consume the most pizza globally, so we have been exploring current pizza trends in the US, which we could give our own Australian spin. In Australia, we have our own pizza taste profiles, so we focused more on the pizza and dough process instead of toppings; which is what lead us to Chicago."
Traditionally, deep-dish and stuffed pizzas are slow cooked to bake through the loaded ingredients, however, the pizza chain still wanted to provide convenience with the new range. So, the Eagle Boys tweaked the process of making the pies to make sure they can deliver the Pizza Pies within the similar time frames their customers are used to.
"The build of the Pizza Pies follows a new process in our stores and our operations team worked closely with our franchisees and store staff to get them trained up and excited. The layered build provides the perfect foundation for tasty ingredients to be encased in golden dough, resulting in a flavour burst with each bite," Gault explained.
She noted that the Pizza Pies are the chain's most innovative pizza range to date.
On top of the new process, the chain introduced five new flavours exclusive to the range, with inspiration coming from Eagle Boys customers,franchisees and international food trends.
Flavors include Roast Beef & Gravy, Bondi Pizza Pie and Beef & Bacon Cheeseburger, among others.
The use of pulled roast beef is also a first to the chain, according to Gault.
"Product innovation is essential. At the end of the day the customer is the most important person in any business and it is important to identify what they want and how to cater to their needs," she noted. "When it comes to menu innovation, the products a company rolls out need to fit within the organisation’s strategic direction while obviously also tasting delicious."

Eagle Boy's Pizza Pies are available until June 29, in a regular size priced from $8.95.
