Donut King offers a free donut, in exchange for a status update

A sweet, cinnamon-laden trade.

Social media users who post a a status update that use the word ‘donut’ and includes ‘#donutking’ is entitled to a free classic Cinnamon Donut from Donut King. To redeem, one can simply show their status on their mobile device to the staff on the same day at any of Donut King’s 315 outlets nationally.

The massive giveaway and social media campaign is all about getting people talking about donuts, said Donut King Managing Director Nicholas Brill, "we want to get people talking about donuts, and more importantly, tasting donuts!"

"Social media is one of the most effective ways for us to reach our customers. With over 233,000 Facebook fans and growing, it is important for us to be continually engaging with our community. Driving an authentic connection between the Donut King brand and our customers has been centric to the campaign which has been delivered largely through digital and social media platforms."

However, he also noted that traditional media still plays an important role in the donut chain's media strategy.
