Simmo’s 100+ ice cream flavours and how Amped Digital helped reduce their customer wait times

Amped Digital installed a large scale 5-screen digital menu board in Simmo's new Dunsborough store.

Simmos Ice Creamery was started by a father and son team armed with an ancient Irish recipe, a small ice cream machine and scoops of enthusiasm set up their little ice creamery on Commonage Road in Dunsborough' (Simmos 2021). At the time selling only 12 flavours utilising a small machine that could only produce 2 tubs of ice cream at a time! Simmos has grown rapidly since then, now boasting a huge selection of 100+ ice cream flavours. To date, they have 18 ‘scoop-shop’ locations around Western Australia including Margaret River, Bridgetown, Exmouth and Broome.

Challenges:

Amped Digital was engaged by Simmos to install a Digital Menu Board in their new Dunsborough store. Due to their rapid growth and popularity, the store was having the issue of crowds lining up, not able to see their ice cream selection easily and slowing down the purchase process. Another issue the store operators ran into was product selling out and not having the ability to notify the customers of this instantly on their menu boards.

Simmos regularly update their ice cream selection, consistently adding new flavours. Simmos required a solution that would easily allow them to update their menu boards to advertise these new additions to the menu.

Solution

Amped Digital installed a large scale 5-screen digital menu board. Due to the limited options on the premises to provide customers with a clear viewpoint when ordering, we decided the safest and neatest solution would be to mount the menu from the ceiling using custom-built mounts and Vogel’s bar. Including a content management system was vital for this solution, allowing Simmos to edit and add items to the digital menu board when needed.

Rhiannon, our Lead Designer, organised a full refresh of their product imagery, suited for digital menu boards and content creation services.

Result:

The 5-screen Samsung QMR series digital display with BrightSign media players that Amped installed for Simmo’s allowed the store to showcase their 100+ ice cream flavours in bright colours and with little to no glare. The installation of a digital signage system reduced their ongoing costs of regular print updates to nil. Simmo’s required a solution that would allow their staff to easily update their screen content depending on which flavours were available on specific days of the week.

The Signagelive CMS with live data integration allowed Simmo’s to instantly mark off certain ice-cream flavours when they were out of stock, by keeping their customers informed they reduced the previous service delays Simmo’s had. The new system allowed Simmo’s to display their 100+ ice cream flavours on rotation, giving customers the ability to choose what flavour they would like to order while still in queue, further reducing the wait times.
