More Aussie coffee drinkers a boon to local QSR industry

If your favourite restaurant has suddenly been serving coffee in addition to its typical menu, don’t be surprised: Aussies, after all, have been taking more coffee breaks and kicking up their caffeine fix a notch higher lately.

“Australians’ appreciation of high-quality coffee continued in 2013 with off-trade value sales increasing by a strong 6%, taking the category to $1 billion,” says Euromonitor International’s country report “Coffee in Australia.” “The sophistication of coffee drinking has become apparent, with consumers’ palates maturing, becoming more discerning in terms of flavour and origins of coffee beans.”

Coffee-serving restaurants are expected to remain busy, however, as this trend is expected to continue, Euromonitor International predicts.

“Australia’s appreciation of coffee is set to continue with a projected 3% total volume CAGR (compound annual growth rate) over the forecast period and an expected CAGR of 5% in off-trade constant value terms. The Australian palate will continue to develop and mature, and coffee companies will need to understand the changing needs of the consumer to remain competitive,” the same report says.

Franke Coffee Systems, one of the world’s leading suppliers of fully automatic coffee machines, knows all about the good taste of real coffee. As a “single-source” coffee equipment solutions provider, Franke believes in designing high-quality coffee machines that emphasize top-of-the-line design and features—perfect value for businesses such as QSR restaurants who are thinking of expanding their customer base to include coffee drinkers.

“At Franke, innovation and technology is at the core of future equipment design within our business,” claims David Downing, Head of Sales - Asia Pacific at Franke.

Driven by its Automatic line of coffee machines, Franke is optimistic on its growth this year, which is expected to be supported by its robust network of distributors, who always ensure clients’ business and growth come first. In order to meet the challenge of operating in diverse markets worldwide, Franke strives to understand the needs of its customers—in addition to providing reliability, quality, efficiency and stability in every coffee machine it sells.

“Franke is continually looking at the research and development of next-generation coffee platforms utilising the best that today’s technology can provide. We continue to evolve and adapt, so all I can say is—watch this space!” says Downing.
