McDonald’s test AI in drive-thru
The test is being done in one restaurant.
McDonald's Australia has started trialling AI-powered drive-thru ordering technology at McDonald’s Schofields in Sydney.
According to the fast food chain, the tech aims to streamline the ordering process to create more flexibility for restaurant teams to focus on accurate orders and improve hospitality.
A staff member will be on standby if a customer prefers.
In the US, McDonald’s is testing its AI-powered system called ArchIQ.The voice assistant, nicknamed Archy, takes drive-thru orders and is available in both English and Spanish. Australia is the second McDonald’s market globally to trial the technology after the United States.
“Early feedback from the first test market has been encouraging, and we’ve also seen strong engagement from local employees who are excited to be involved in trialling the technology. We’re looking forward to hearing directly from customers and crew as we continue to test, learn and use feedback to inform our next steps,” David McMullen, Chief Restaurant Officer, McDonald’s Australia said.
As part of the trial, the technology will initially operate during specific parts of the day, allowing McDonald’s to gather feedback, monitor performance and identify further opportunities to enhance the Drive Thru experience.
