Inside McDonald’s $1b shopping list
The chain bought 140 million kilograms of potatoes in 2025.
McDonald's Australia sourced more than 347 million kilograms of Australian ingredients and spent over $1b with local farmers and suppliers in 2025, according to the company's newly released annual Aussie Shopping List.
The chain said more than 90% of its produce and products are now sourced locally, supporting over 15,000 farmers across the country. Potatoes remained its most sourced ingredient, with 140 million kilograms bought for its fries and hash browns, followed by 89 million kilograms of Australian beef for burgers sold in local and international restaurants and 23 million kilograms of chicken for burgers and sides.
The shopping list also included 51 million litres of fresh milk for coffees, shakes and desserts, 21 million kilograms of wheat flour, 6.8 million kilograms of canola oil, and 5.2 million kilograms of eggs, equivalent to 89 million eggs, for its McMuffins.
The company said demand grew across several ingredients, reflecting shifts in customer preferences. Apple purchases recorded the strongest growth of any ingredient, rising almost 15% year on year on the back of menu items including apple pies and apple slices.
Growth in eggs and fresh milk aligned with demand across the breakfast and McCafe offerings, whilst Australian beef and chicken also saw strong growth, supporting new products including the McCrispy, McWings and the Big Arch.
Menu innovation created new demand for local produce, with limited-time items such as the McOz burger introducing beetroot to the shopping list. The company said it had also expanded support for the local agricultural industry through categories such as oats, almonds and canola, used in dairy alternative milk and cooking.
Jeanelle Boyce, director of supply chain at McDonald's Australia, said the quality of the menu began with Australian farmers and suppliers.
"We're incredibly proud of our long-standing partnerships with Australian farming communities, whose commitment helps us serve great-quality, great-tasting food and drinks to millions of Australians every year," Boyce said.
