The chain saw a strong interest in an extension to include more snack-based and savoury products.
Australian dessert franchise San Churro announced the launch of a new Spanish tapas range in an attempt to reach customers seeking snacking options.
A first for the company, primarily known for their churros and chocolate, the franchise will launch the Signature Savoury menu across 25 stores this month, with plans to expand further in the coming year.
The product trials took place in 2020, with consumer and loyalty member research revealing a “strong interest” to include more snack-based and savoury products.
This, San Churro said, resulted in an incremental sales increase across all participating stores, which helped spearhead the launch across half of all stores nationwide.
“Our expansion to include a savoury product menu has been a long time coming and when we received such positive feedback from San Churro fans we knew this was the perfect time to see our Spanish tapas range come to life,” CEO Giro Maurici said in a media release.
“We have carefully curated all savoury menu items to complement our much-loved churros dessert range, and this has been reaffirmed in our recent sale figures.”
The new menu includes croquettes, meatballs, traditional empanadas and a selection of toasties and pitas. Australians can choose from four tapas plates for $30, six plates for $45 or eight plates for $60.
“While all items on the menu complement the flavours of our dessert range, we also needed to create a delicious savoury menu that was suitable for all types of dining experiences – from big groups enjoying a night out to on-the-go snacking. We can’t wait to show you just how perfectly sweet and savoury pair,” said Zoe Farrell, the chain’s head of product development.
