Rock Chic Eggs offers free-range eggs straight from the farm
Three years into the free-range egg business, Rock Chic Eggs, from the former band manager of Inxs Chris Murphy, has been gathering a name for their taste, quality & freshness. QSR Media sat down with him to discuss the 'seriously free-range' system that gives his product its quality.
QSR Media: What sets you apart from other free range egg suppliers?
CM Murphy: Rock Chic Eggs are seriously free-range. Our hens live a true life of a chicken in the wild as they given access to free-range from sun-up to sundown. We put the lives and happiness of our hens as a first priority, making sure they get plenty of time to roam around the farm’s pastures. The vans are moved around the pasture every few days so the hens can feed on fresh worms and grubs – just like nature intended.
All this gives our customers an amazing tasting, seriously free-range egg.
QSR Media: What would you tell a QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) or fast casual operator considering going down the free range/organic path?
CM Murphy: I would say to them, visit the farm you are sourcing your free-range eggs from to ensure you are getting what you buy. It’s as simple as that. Also, talk to the farmer about their distribution – do the eggs go straight from the farm to the restaurant? We have an open gate policy at Rock Chic Eggs and most of our customers have come to the farm and they’ve loved what they have seen. We also deliver straight from the farm to our customers – they receive their eggs within 24 to 48 hours. The freshness and taste of our eggs speak for themselves.
QSR Media: Some QSR’s or fast casual operators might have concerns about costs and supply chain issues, what would you say to them?
CM Murphy: Running a seriously free-range farm does cost more. We give our hens the best quality feed, they have – and need - much more land to roam, and we require more ‘hands-on’ labour to look after our hens and collect the eggs. All this does increase the price, but what you are getting is a seriously, free-range product. Our free-range labelling is honest and ethical. What you expect is what you get at Rock Chic Eggs. We also have a laid-to-order policy, which means that as we increase our customer base, we increase production. This way, we don’t over populate the farm and we are able to give our customers the freshest free-range eggs (see attached our page of testimonials!).
