Third time’s a charm: Cold Rock wins at the Penrith Local Business Awards

For the third year in a row, Cold Rock Ice Creamery Penrith licked its competitors to claim victory at the fast food category of the awads.

Cold Rock Ice Creamery Penrith has scooped an award hat-trick, winning a division of the Penrith Local Business Awards for the third year in a row.

The High Street outlet licked six strong competitors to claim the fast food/takeaway category at the 2011 awards ceremony at Penrith Panthers Leagues Club on Wednesday night. It was the third time the store won the award since opening in September 2008.

Owned by couples Paul and Rosa O’Neill and Hayden and Sheryl Ramsey, the unique ice creamery lets customers add chocolate, fruit, nut and lolly “mix-ins” into their ice creams.
The creation is then mixed together on a refrigerated slab known as the Cold Rock, with up to 3000 flavour combinations available.

“We are really excited to take out this award again given we were up against more competitors than previous years,” Mr Ramsey said.

“Cold Rock is such a fun business to run and the concept is a winner, particularly with the kids who get so excited to watch and hear their creations being smashed together behind the counter.

“Our customers come up with crazy combinations like Nerds and Sour Worms mixed into bubble gum ice cream, but that’s the beauty of the ‘create your own’ concept and what makes Cold Rock such a success.”

The finalists were selected by a customer voting system based on store presentation, product range and quality, value for money and customer service. A judging panel selected the winner based on a questionnaire and a mystery shopper test.

“We’ve really made an effort to be a leading store for the Cold Rock brand and to deliver only the very best experiences, from greeting customers with a smile as soon as they walk in the door to saying goodbye at the end,” Mr Ramsey said.

Cold Rock Penrith was up against Michelangelo’s, Panthers Pizza and Kebab, Wendy’s Emu Plains, Gourmet Monterey Centro Nepean, Donut King Centro Nepean and Southlands Pizza.
Cold Rock Penrith offers 24 ice creams flavours, two sorbets and dozens of mix-ins.
