MOS Burger's 200 store plan

This burger chain is one to watch, they are 2nd to McDonald's in their native Japan and have ambitious plans for Australia. Read this interview with their GM Yasufumi Sato.


QSR Media: MOS Burger, tell us about its heritage.
Yasufumi: MOS, stands for Mountain, Ocean and Sun is an expression of MOS Burger’s care towards nature and selection of being healthy. MOS Burger’s entry in to the Australian market brings an alternative dining offering which is healthier because it takes into careful consideration the quality of all ingredients used as well as by using proper cooking methods to ensure the great taste and freshness of each preparation. This is in line with MOS Burger’s motto, “Making People Happy Through Food”, which communicates the belief that food directly affects human lifestyle and health.


QSR Media: What are your plans for Australia?
Yasufumi: We currently opened 4 stores in Queensland Australia. 1 store in Brisbane, 2 stores in Gold Coast and 1 store in Ipswich. Our planning will open another 7 stores in this year and total 200 stores store open in 5 years time along Australia.

QSR Media: Have you had to change the menu to suit Australian taste preferences?
Yasufumi: The sizes of our burgers are slightly bigger to suit the Australian market, but we keep the taste to stay the same.

QSR Media: What role does the Japan parent company have in the day to day running of the MOS in Australia?
Yasufumi: Product development. Staffs Training Program. Local Market Development.

QSR Media: Who are your typical customers?
Yasufumi: Caucasian

QSR Media: Are you looking for franchise partners?
Yasufumi: We are not looking for franchise partners at the moment.
