Find out how Domino's aims to disrupt the QSR industry with its technological innovations

QSR Media got in touch with the people behind Domino's to talk about the brand's continuous push towards innovation and technology in the quick service restaurant industry.

Domino’s efforts towards innovation is built into an ethos that revolves around the convenience of its customers. The pizza company even became the first pizza company in Australia to offer home delivery. By creating mobile apps on all platforms, a responsive website, easy click ordering system and making pizza tracker available on smart watches, the brand aims to make ordering easier for its customers to order.

Domino's commitment to being at the forefront of technology innovation has even led to the development of DRU - Domino's Robotic Unit, an autonomous delivery vehicle, drone delivery tests in New Zealand, and a GPS Driver Tracker that can track deliveries and keep drivers safe simultaneously.

QSR Media: What's new at Domino's?

Domino’s is excited to announce that we launched our Bolognese Garlic Baguette which is the newest addition to Domino’s Taste the Colour Menu. Recent additions also include the new Chicken Fajita Pizza and new side dish Poutine as well as improved recipes for family favorites the new Supreme Pizza and new BBQ Meatlovers Pizza.

QSR Media: Can you tell us more about your brand's innovations, both in tech and digital?

At Domino’s we are always working to make sure our customer’s ordering process is easier than ever before and we aim to remove any friction points from a customer ordering their meal to when it arrives fresh and hot at their home. With this in mind, we’ve developed a variety of ordering options from SMS ordering to Zero Click Ordering making the process faster than ever before. We’ve also developed GPS Driver Tracker and On-Time Cooking so customers know where their pizza is during delivery and we can make sure their pizza is hot and fresh out of oven for when they pick it up. We are also looking into different delivery methods so we can ensure our deliveries are made quickly, efficiently and safely.

QSR Media: What's next in innovation for Australia? Will we be seeing drone deliveries soon?

We are really excited about our DRU Drone by Flirtey deliveries rolling out in the New Zealand market and we would love to bring them to Australia soon. We have been working with our partner Flirtey to discuss Drone regulations with CASA and the Australian Government and hope that these discussions continue so we are able to make Pizza by Drone Delivery in Australia a regular occurrence in the near future.

QSR Media: What are the challenges the industry is facing?
Like many industries across Australia, the Quick Service Restaurant needs to disrupt or be disrupted. With technology providing a bigger part in customer’s lives, the industry needs to adapt to make ordering and delivery more convenient.
