QSR Media sat down with the people at Muzz Buzz to talk about Australia's drive-thru scene, the brand's latest plans, and what it takes to succeed in today's competitive market.
Muzz Buzz offers locally roasted coffee in 55 drive-thrus across Australia. The brand also signed a strategic international co-branding partnership with Java Juice, which saw the introduction of Java Juice smoothie and juice products across the brand's coffee stores.
QSR Media: What’s new at Muzz Buzz?
Over the last six months Muzz Buzz has introduced Java Juice to all of its stores and this has been an outstanding success throughout the group. It has diversified our income stream to give us a strong summer trade as opposed to products which are very focused on winter months. We have also taken a financial interest in Java Franchising and this will give the company significant growth opportunities in the near future.
QSR Media: Can you tell us more about the Drive Thru Scene?
Drive Thru is the future of fast food. People no longer have the time, or inclination, to park cars, walk to their destination, stand in queues, get the children out the car seat, walk back through the rain, to get to their cars. This is a thing of the past. If it is not Drive thru, it is not convenient, and convenience marketing is everything. We will continue to develop our Drive Thru businesses around Australia, and expect growth to continue in multiple states.
QSR Media: What have you learned as a successful Drive Thru beverage brand?
We have learned that Drive Thru is the key. Convenience works. You have to produce high quality product, but most of all you have to produce it very quickly. You need to be able to serve a customer or make a product in under one minute and this is our aim every time.
QSR Media: What have you observed with the demand of consumers today?
Consumers today demand quality in the products that they purchase. Australia has one of the most sophisticated coffee markets in the world and consumer expectation is educated and demanding. It is important that all products within our stores are the very best that can be provided and they need to be provided quickly. The market today in Australia is quite depressed and you need to provide variety and interest to hold consumer’s attention.
QSR Media: What can you say are the challenges you are currently facing in the industry?
The current Australian economy, is the biggest challenge to everything we do every day. In particular, the West Australian economy is very difficult, and therefore you need to remain relevant to consumers. Finding new consumers and bringing them to the stores is an absolute key. Our marketing needs to be aggressive with strong messages and we need to continue to build a fun image.
QSR Media: Opportunities?
The opportunities exist by bringing brands together, and in the foreseeable future Muzz Buzz will be announcing another major brand cue. We look forward to letting consumers see that Drive Thru is a great opportunity for them to buy a great variety of products.
